Walking up to the new Raising Cane’s on Newbury Street, I kept thinking about King Midas. Everything he touched turned to gold. This restaurant didn’t need magic. The exterior did the announcing. Gold. Gleaming. Unapologetic. A design decision that didn’t whisper. It declared.

The interior carried that same confidence. Warm gold lighting. A space that understood what it was and committed completely. It’s the kind of design that makes you stop and look. But that’s not the story I came to capture.

The real story was what happened inside once people started arriving. Hundreds of people showing up not because they had to. Because they wanted to be part of something. The neighborhood claiming their new spot. The quiet moment between two strangers waiting in line who realized they were part of the same thing. The staff breathing easier knowing they actually pulled it off. The conversation between a parent and child about their new favorite place. These are the moments that reveal what an opening actually means.

One of the best things about photographing openings is witnessing the exact moment a space becomes a place. When the design stops being a background and becomes the setting for real people making memories. We were there to catch that.
